Global Disability Summit

Kenya made commitments. Somebody has to check.

At the Global Disability Summit, Kenya signed up to a set of commitments across eight areas, from financing and education to health, political participation and climate. A commitment made at a summit is not worth much on its own. What makes it worth something is whether anyone back home can see it, track it and ask about it.

So we built the instruments for that, with CBM's support, and published them for anyone to use. Two documents and eleven short films.

The two toolkits

One for counties, one for the organisations holding them to it.

Inclusive Counties Practical Guidelines

For localising Kenya's 2025 Global Disability Summit commitments

Written for county governments. It sets out what each of the eight commitments means at county level, who is responsible, how county disability committees and focal points fit together, and where the practical entry points are, starting with the County Integrated Development Plans.

Developed jointly by Black Albinism and United Disabled Persons of Kenya, with CBM support.

The OMAT Toolkit

OPD Monitoring and Advocacy Toolkit for the localisation and implementation of the commitments

Written for organisations of persons with disabilities. It is the instrument for holding the commitments to account: what to monitor, how to record it, and how to turn what you record into advocacy that a county has to answer.

Produced by Black Albinism with CBM support.

How it was launched

Not from Nairobi outwards.

The tools were launched on 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, by our own county advocates in three counties at once, which is the only way a localisation tool should ever be launched.
