Money that stays in the community that made it.
BA Chama is a savings and investment circle owned by its members, persons with albinism and their families building capital together, on their own terms.

What BA Chama is
A chama, run properly.
A chama is a Kenyan institution long before it is a financial product: a group of people who save together, lend to each other, and invest as one. It works because the members know each other and because the rules are agreed out loud.
BA Chama applies that model inside the Black Albinism community. Members contribute on a fixed cycle. The pooled savings do three jobs, they provide a safety net, they fund member businesses through loans, and they build a group investment that grows beyond what any one member could reach alone.
It sits inside our economic empowerment work because rights without income are incomplete. A member who can cover a hospital bill, restock a shop or pay school fees is exercising more of their rights than one who is waiting on a grant cycle.

Why it exists
Three problems a bank was never going to solve.
Income that arrives in fragments
Many members earn irregularly, casual work, small enterprise, seasonal trade. A weekly or monthly chama contribution fits that reality in a way a fixed loan repayment does not.
Credit that is out of reach
Without collateral or a credit history, formal lending is closed. Inside a chama, your record with the group is your credit history.
Health costs that arrive without warning
Sunscreen, dermatology, transport to a clinic, a screening that turns into treatment. A chama absorbs a shock that would otherwise end a business.

Who is behind it
Members first, then a committee they elected.
BA Chama is governed by its members through an elected committee, with roles and terms set out in the group constitution. Black Albinism provides the structure, the training and the accountability, not the ownership.
