Consent is the design, not the paperwork.
Persons with albinism have been photographed without permission for a very long time. This library was built to be the opposite of that.
Our commitments
What every contributor is promised
You give it, we do not take it
No image enters this library from a search engine, a social media account or a photographer's archive. Every image was contributed deliberately by the person in it.
You are told exactly what it will be used for
Training and evaluating AI models, in plain language, before you sign anything.
You can withdraw
Tell us and we remove your images from the library and from future releases. State honestly what can and cannot be undone once a model has trained on an image
Children are handled differently
A parent or guardian consents in writing and the child agrees too. Either can change their mind. Confirm whether minors are included at all in the current release
Not for surveillance or identification
The licence prohibits use for biometric identification, surveillance or profiling of individuals. Confirm the licence carries this restriction
Not for sale as stock
Contributors gave their images to improve representation, not to become someone's product catalogue. Confirm commercial terms
The hard part
We will not pretend this is simple.
Once a model has been trained on an image, removing that image from the dataset does not unlearn it. Anyone who tells a contributor otherwise is misleading them. What we can promise is removal from the library and from every future release, and a licence that binds the people who took a copy.
There is a second tension worth naming. A dataset that makes a marginalised group more visible to machines also makes them easier for machines to find. That is precisely why the licence rules out identification and surveillance, and why we would rather have a smaller library with strong terms than a large one with none.
Have a lawyer review the consent form and licence before public release

Questions contributors ask
Only if you want it to be. The default is no name. Confirm the naming options offered
Answer this plainly. If contributors are not paid, say so and say why.
Describe the access process: open download, application, or approved builders only
Tell us. We will pursue it under the licence terms and remove the image from the library. Give a named contact for this
State the retention period
