People rarely say out loud that they do not want a person with albinism on the team. What happens instead is that the ball goes somewhere else, every time, until the person stops asking for it.
That is the whole problem in one image, and it is why Black Albinism FC exists.
What a club does that a document cannot
An advocacy paper asks somebody to change their mind. A match asks them to pass. Put persons with albinism and persons without albinism in the same kit, chasing the same result, and the conversation in the changing room afterwards is a different conversation from every awareness session that came before it.
The club fields a men's team and a women's team.
The quieter problem it solves
Sun exposure keeps a lot of young people with albinism out of team sport altogether, and the reasoning is sound: unprotected hours in the sun do real damage. The answer is not to stay indoors for a lifetime. It is early and late kick-offs, long sleeves, hats worn without comment, and sunscreen on the touchline.
Played that way, the outdoors is not closed to anybody.
Watch it
We made a film about why this work matters. It is on the sport for development page, alongside what else that track covers.
If your side wants a fixture, charity or friendly, we will take it.
